“How OptimismHas Guided Me Through Trying Times”
Beginning in 1928, the oratorical Contest has become the longest running program of Optimist International. The contest is designed for young people to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with an opportunity to compete for multiple college scholarships.
District Contests will be held in person on April 26, 2025 in Reading, Pennsylvania
at the Penn State Berks Campus
Preliminaries – April 26,2025 @ 9:00 am (5 students will advance to the finals)
Finals –afternoon of April 26th
Club/Zone entries to District MUST be received no later than April 1st 2025 by District Chair.
$50.00 per entry; made payable to Atlantic Central District

1. Clubs may advance up to two contestants to the District level.
2. District contest is non-gender specific.
If your club is still holding separate male/female contests, make sure you are using the same judges for both
contests. You will advance the winner who scored the highest to the District contest.
If a zone has the minimum of three contestants and wants to hold a zone contest, that winner will advance directly to the District finals.
DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIPS:
First Place: $2,500
Second Place: $1,500
Third Place: $1,000
Contestants have a chance to win up to $22,500 at the World Championship Level!
"How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success”
The Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a historical perspective. In addition to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship.
One District Scholarship of $2,500 is awarded.
Club Winners must be submitted to the District Level by February 28, 2025
There is a $15.00 Entry fee, made payable to OI Atlantic Central District
CCDHH Club Deadline January 15, 2025
Will be held after the Second Quarter Meeting
Submit Club Winners(s) Speech. Birth Certificate and Fee by January 31, 2025
